PGT & PGS: Guarantee Your Baby’s Health
Eliminate the anxiety of genetic disorders and recurrent miscarriages. With Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology at Monica Clinics, we select only the strongest, 100% genetically healthy embryos for your IVF transfer.
Why Leave Your IVF Success to Chance?
Even if an embryo looks perfect under a standard microscope, it may carry hidden chromosomal abnormalities. These unseen genetic errors are the leading cause of failed IVF cycles, early miscarriages, and congenital conditions like Down Syndrome.
Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) changes everything. By examining the DNA of your embryos before they are transferred to the uterus, we ensure that only genetically flawless embryos are chosen, dramatically increasing your chances of a successful, healthy pregnancy on the first try.
Understanding PGT: Which Test Do You Need?
Modern genetic testing is customized to your specific medical history. At Monica Clinics, our partner laboratories utilize ultra-sensitive NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) for three main types of PGT:
- PGT-A (Aneuploidy Screening – Formerly PGS): The most common test. It screens all 24 chromosomes to ensure there are no missing or extra chromosomes. Ideal for women over 35, couples with recurrent miscarriages, or those who have had failed IVF cycles.
- PGT-M (Monogenic Disorders – Formerly PGD): Specifically targets known hereditary diseases in your family tree, such as Cystic Fibrosis, Sickle Cell Anemia, or SMA. It ensures the disease is not passed on to your child.
- PGT-SR (Structural Rearrangements): Designed for couples where one partner has a known chromosomal inversion or translocation. It identifies embryos with the correct genetic balance, preventing severe birth defects.
Family Balancing (Gender Selection)
Because PGT maps the entire chromosomal makeup of the embryo, it definitively identifies the sex chromosomes (XX for female, XY for male). Through our elite partner clinics in destinations where it is legally permitted (such as Cyprus), we offer Family Balancing services. This allows you to choose the gender of your next child with 99.9% accuracy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Historically, PGS (Screening) was used to count chromosomes (looking for Down syndrome, etc.), and PGD (Diagnosis) was used to look for specific diseases (like Cystic Fibrosis). Today, the medical community uses the umbrella term “PGT” for both. PGT-A is the new name for PGS, and PGT-M is the new name for PGD.
No. We wait until the embryo reaches the robust Blastocyst stage (Day 5 or 6). At this point, the embryo has differentiated into two parts. We only take 5-10 cells from the “Trophectoderm” (which becomes the placenta). The “Inner Cell Mass” (which becomes the baby) is left completely untouched.
While no medical procedure offers a 100% guarantee, transferring a euploid (genetically normal) embryo verified by PGT dramatically increases the implantation rate and lowers the miscarriage rate to under 5%. It is the most powerful tool available in modern IVF to ensure success.
Yes. Because the genetic sequencing via NGS takes a few days to a couple of weeks to yield results, the biopsied embryos are safely flash-frozen (vitrified). Once we know which embryos are perfectly healthy, we prepare your uterus for a Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET), which actually results in higher pregnancy rates than fresh transfers.
